One of my 2011 goals
This year I have many goals, but one that is near and dear to my heart. I am planning to play soccer again. I really haven't played for nearly 3 years, I may be older but I know the game inside and out.
My trouble is finding a league near me to play in. It seems most if not all the leagues in Southern California are Spanish speaking only leagues. I have played for years in these leagues, I speak what I call soccer Spanish. That means just enough Spanish to ask for the ball and tell people what to do on the field.
One of the things I miss the most, is the smell of wet freshly mowed grass. The smell really seems to wake you up in the morning. Standing on the field a few minutes before kick off and surveying the field of battle. take a deep breath, let the smell of fresh chalk and the sounds of the crowd take you over.
Man I can't wait to experience those sensations again. I almost feel like a piece of me has been lost, and I am so close to finding it again.
I am offended by the implications throughout the article. As a Latino whose forefathers worked tirelessley to keep "the caucassion" man's grass freshly cut, you speak of it with disdain. You are remiss to not mention that you miss the Mexican who maintained this grass which you speak of.
Also, you state that you know just enough Spanish to tell MY PEOPLE what to do. The opression is over I say! No more "white man" telling us minorities what to do!
The Mexicans can teach you how to TRULY play soccer, much like I have taught you on FIFA 11' with Spain, but to truly embrace OUR culture, you need to open your heart and clear your mind of the ignorance.
You are correct Mr. Ben Afleck, a piece of you is lost, and if you hope to find it again, you WILL need the help of your dark, fast tongue, likely illegal friends.
